CD REVIEW ------------------ ARTIST: CANDI STATON ALBUM: "HIS HANDS" This is the latest secular music release by Candi Staton. The CD is more focused on the country/western side of thangs, with some moments of fantastic blues and R&B music. Candi has such a wonderful, soulful voice...reminds me of Gladys Knight. Here is a breakdown of her CD: 1. "You Don't Have Far To Go": country-western tune with some good country rhythm guitar and a little bit of horns. 2. "When Hearts Grow Cold": a good R&B track with spots of hot lead guitar riffing. 3. "It's Not Easy Lettin' Go": a good R&B track featuring some good strings. 4. "His Hands": another R&B track. 5. "How Do I Get Over You?": countrified blues track with some distorted guitar licks. 6. "You Never Really Wanted Me": some country rhythm guitar over a smooth ballad. 7. "I'll Sing a Love Song to You": for the first 45 seconds or so, all you hear is the sweet, soulful voice of Candi along with the acoustic guitar riffs. It starts off slow and moves into a mid-tempo song with piano riffs. THIS IS HOW YOU WRITE A LOVE SONG. 8. "In Name Only": an excellent blues song...the intro features Candi's vocals, a little bit of piano playing and some sparse lead guitar riffs...from there, it goes into some strong blues guitar pluckin' and more of the lead guitar lines. 9. "Running Out of Love": straight-up country/western stuff...get ready to do the "do-si-do/take your partner 'cross the flo' "!!! 10. "Cry to Me": straight-up country/western stuff...I like the backing vocal ad-libs of "Ah ooh!". YEEEEE-HAAAAAA!! 11. "When Will I?": a country gospel tune with some standout bass and good country GEE-TAR PLUCKIN'!! -Dr. Brookenstein http://www.brookenstein.com
