At 5:00pm (after the awards ceremony, where members of Parliament like
George, Fuzzy Haskins, Grady Thomas, Ray Davis and Tawl Ross won awards for
their achievements in R&B music. Their sons were there to accept the
awards), George
Clinton & the P-Funk Allstars started with "Funkentelechy",
featuring the hot 'n' funky bass riffs of Lige Curry! Clip Payne began rapping
the lyrics to "Promentalshitbackwashpsychosis Enema Squad (The Doo-Doo
Chasers)" before the band jumped into "Gamin' on Ya". "Bop
Gun" was sounded very good, with Steve Boyd and later Kevin Goins handling
the lead vocals (YES, KEVIN GOINS Y'ALL)! Because Belita Woods wasn't at the
show, Kendra Foster took over for the lead vocals of "The Way She
Moves" during the performance of "Undisco Kidd"...trust me,
it just wasn't the same. "Cosmic Slop" was Garry Shider's
spotlight to shine vocally, and also the point where George Clinton first
appeared onstage.
George Clinton took over
on lead vocals and began his vicious, profane attack on the audience's ears (UNDERSTAND
THAT THIS WAS A FREE FESTIVAL IN CEDAR BROOK PARK, WHERE THERE WERE A LOT OF
YOUNG CHILDREN IN THE CROWD! By the way, I know what some of are now saying....
well what about "Promentalshitbackwashpsychosis Enema Squad"?? I'M
INCLUDING THAT SONG TOO) with stuff like "Take It to The Stage",
"Take Your Dead Ass Home", the chant "To the window, to the
walls, till the sweat run from my balls", and his "Dirty Rap"
(X-rated). Snippets of "Music For My Mother", "I Got a Thing,
You Got a Thing, Everybody's Got a Thing", "You and Your Folks, Me
and My Folks" and "P-Funk (Wants to Get Funked Up)" were heard,
and followed by the music of "Music for My Mother". He hit a little
bit of "I Wanna Know If It's Good to You", too.
DICKHEAD, long-time
funkateer!!!
Sativa Diva came out and did performed "Hard as Steel" (another
profane song). "Maggot Brain" was a great, electrifying performance
with the blazing lead guitar fire of Blackbyrd McKnight and the powerful
drumming of Rico! "Knee Deep" was a good performance with Greg Thomas
doing his routine scatting...Kendra took over Belita's part of
"Sentimental Journey" (again, I can't see her being Belita's stuff).
"Aqua Boogie" and "One Nation Under a Groove" were good.
Things got very interesting with the hot performance of the tune written by
members of Funk-Kin, "Sexy Side of You" featuring lead vocals of
George and Mr. Soulful himself Steve Boyd.....a fantastic funky tune that got a
profane treatment when George tossed in the line "And you'll be squeezing
my ball...." during one of the choruses. "Bounce to This" (this
is the fast version, not that dreadful slow one) was an extremely funky
"shake-your-rump" performance featuring Kendra on lead vocals!
"Flashlight" was good, as well as the Hall of Fame riff. Then, the
horrid performance of "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On" took place...and
I was ready to leave. The show was over at 7:40pm.
