At
9:00pm, the P-Funk Allstars started their set with some "Maggot
Brain" (the song where the one and only axe-slayer, Michael "Kidd
Funkadelic" Hampton shined!) and "Dog Star" (Blackbyrd's
shining moment). "Cosmic Slop" sounded great (with the great
vocal chops of Garry "Diaperman" Shider) and that's when George
Clinton came out! George
started his rap of "What is a booty and how would I know if I'm shakin'
it?" (from an unreleased Prince & G. Clinton collaboration called
"Soulpsychodelicide") "Tear the Roof Off the Sucka" and "Up For the Down
Stroke" were good, but I loved Belita Woods's chant of "I wanna get
down, I wanna get down, let's take it to the bridge like James Brown....we're
funkin' at street level!" (the first part from the Jimmy G & the
Tackheads track, "Slingshot" and the second part from P-Funk's
"All Sons of Bitches") "Take Your Dead Ass Home" preceded an amazing
keyboard solo by Razorsharp.....it was Bernie Worrell's
"Atmosphere"!! Next was a funny-ass, cartoonish version of "I'm
Never Gonna Tell It"!!! The slow groove of "U.S. Customs Coast Guard Dope Dog"
followed! "One Nation Under a Groove" and "Flashlight" were
great, the latter having a hot sax & trumpet solo (Scott Taylor &
Bennie Cowan, respectively)!! "Flashlight" included "The
Electric Spanking of War Babies". "Knee Deep" included
"Rubber Duckie" and the "Disco-To-Go" horn riff.
"Something Stinks & I Want Some" featured some tasty rhythm
guitarisms & sleazy vocals by Treylewd!! "Billy Boy" (also
performed by Treylewd) focused on the Bill Clinton sex scandal..."in
the oral office"!! Steve
Boyd was da SHIZNIT on vocals for "Dr. Funkenstein"......a true ghost
of Glen Goins!!!!! A few more songs and the band did their "Hall of
Fame" theme, followed by "Free Your Mind and Your Ass Will
Follow"!! The show was over at 12:00 midnight.
