I
arrived late (at 7:15pm) to check out the funkiness of RioSoul! Of course, the
band couldn't resist the urge to call attention to the Dr. Brookenstein black
Afro (I can dig it, baba!)!! RioSoul got seriously nasty on the funk jam
"Feel It", featuring the lovely, beautiful & soulful vocals of
Rio and the kickin' basslines of Stevie Martin!! "Cool Baby" was
funkier with s'more noxious bassisms and funky rhythm guitarisms of James
Gardner! "You Lied to Me" featured some nasty synthesizer riffs in
the intro, courtesy of "Barney Rubble" (Sean Thomas)! "Still in
Love" was pretty good, but better was Barney's Charlie Wilson-style
vocalizations & synthesized grooving on The Gap Band's
"Outstanding"! There was another song after that, before the first
set was over at 7:55pm.
