At
9:15pm, Andy Aaron & the Mean Machine started their first set with a light
jazz piece, followed by the smooth R&B sound of Sade's
"Paradise", featuring the sultry sounds of the Mean Machine horns
Andy Aaron himself (on trumpet), Billy (on sax) and Clayton (on trombone). The
most interesting part of the performance was the beautiful keyboard solo of
Winston, who was playing those riffs on the guitar!! From there, it got a
little funkier with War's "Slippin' into Darkness" and James Brown's
"Give It Up or Turnit a Loose" featuring some funky rhythm guitarisms
by Winston. Winston handled the falsetto lead vocals on "People Make the
World Go 'Round". The last song performed for the first set was James
Brown's "I Got the Feelin' "....FUNKY HORNS and some damn good
drumming from Soul-Patrol's own Lawrence Perry! The first set was over at
10:25pm.
