The zydeco party began at 10:00pm with some of that bluesy
New Orleans funk with a blues jam, featuring some of the funkiest horn solos
around. "Big Chief" was a very welcomed cover with some good
synthesizer riffs! The zydeco party got even better when Buckwheat Zydeco came
out and began jamming with his accordion.......yes, the accordion can be funky,
too!! I also liked seeing this other musician wearing a washboard (common in
the old days, before washing machines) and playing it with metallic
fingertips!! "Hard
to Stop" and "What You Gonna Do? (When The Zydeco Turn It Up on
You)" were two of the hardest rockin' zydeco jams that had the fans
dancing up a storm! Buckwheat is a great entertainer.......he was very energetic
and connected very well with the audience! I even dug him doing the "call
and response" technique with members of his band (like James Brown with
Bobby Byrd) and screaming out some of J.B.'s exclamations!! "Beast of Burden" (I think,
originally by The Rolling Stones) was a very nice ballad with lots of audience
participation! The set ended at 11:45pm.
